They tolerate very hot weather outdoors, as long as they are kept in filtered light or semi-shade, and this will encourage blooming in the fall.

Water abundantly during the growth cycle. Moderately in the winter.

Use a cactus mix, or add additional perlite or pumice stone to the substrate. A sandy, free-draining compost is best suited.

Origin:
Endemic to the mountainous area in the most northwestern corner of Namibia. Kaokoveld, Baynes Mtns. near the river Cunene.
Natural Habitat Baynesia lophophora:
It grows in very shallow soils in the dry, rocky, transitional strip between the north-facing cliffs and the relatively flat summits of the mountains, with the plants well hidden within tufts of grass.
