Kalanchoe is a genus of succulent plants of the Crassulaceae family. They are native to Madagascar and tropical Africa. They are mainly perennials although they can be annual or biennial.
These are popular house plants with bright colourful flowers. Normally flowering for 8-10 weeks.
Kalanchoes prefer bright conditions preferably in direct sunlight. However the leaves may form brown patches from sunburn. Make sure that the temperature does not drop below 10º C.
Like many cacti and succulents the soil should be allowed to dry out completely before rewatering. They do not tolerate over-watering. They will benfit from feeding monthly during the spring.
The most popular species of Kalanchoe in our cactus database are Kalanchoe tomentosa and Kalanchoe blossfeldiana.
