Pachyphytum is a succulent genus from the Crassulaceae family. They are often called Moonstones, or some variation of this name, due to their thick fleshy leaves which often have a silvery colour. They are very attractive plants which can be grown either indoors or outside and are generally fairly easy to grow and look after.
Like most succulents you should avoid overwatering. Use a well drained soil and only water when the top of feels dry. For more information about watering your Cacti and Succulents see Watering your cacti and succulents.
Pachyphytum is native to Mexico and can survive in sunny areas although try to avoid extreme conditions. They also should be brought inside or protected in low temperatures below 0°C to avoid frost.
Pachyphytum can be propogated via leaf cuttings. Try to avoid touching the leaves as this can damage them.
Popular species of Pachyphytum are Pachyphytum Compactum and Pachyphytum Bracteosum.
