Rebutia is a genus of small, pretty and, on the whole, easy to grow cacti. Sometimes called "Crown Cactus" they are globular, colourful and produce large flowers. They have faint ribs and spines which vary greatly across the species. Being easy to look after they are one of the most popular to cultivate and collect.
Rebutia are native to the Andes mountain range in Bolivia, Argentina and Chile. The Rebutia genus has been altered over the years with species being added and removed. It currently contains abpproximately 30 but there is still some ongoing debate about the exact composition of the genus.
Rebutia normally produce large numbers of seeds but can also be propagated from offshoots.
Rebutia like bright light but can grow well in partial shade. They can survive in low temperatures but you should avoid high temperatures. Like most cacti allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings and reduce or even stop watering in the winter. Plant Rebutia in a dedicated cactus mix with occasional fertilizer in the growing season.
